NEC-ND3500A in external box

Postby xxxnick on Fri Jan 21, 2005 12:05 pm

My Nec nd-3500AG not recognized in case Constar ST-2512c (2xFirewire, 1xUSB, support ATA66/100/133) with Oxford 911 chipset.
I have upgrade “Oxford 911” in V4.0 and Nec firmware in v2.18.

One remark, When I plug the external case at the power supply (not connected yet with the computer), the tray does not open.(This happen and before updates-firmware and Oxford).

Is this right? Namely is issue between case(with Oxford) and NEC?

When unplug firmware cable and plug, and try this some times, finally the Led on NEC warm up and recognized from notebook.(HP pavilion, WinXP Pro, SP2)

Thanks.

Seems like a silly question, but is the jumper on the drive set to master? This is really important when using an external case for drives. Second silly question, does the case have a switch on it that is turned off? I know that these are basic things, but I don't know how many times I have left a cable unplugged or a jumper in the wrong position (2 slaves, 2 masters or 1 cable select and one as either slave or master) and closed up the case without noticing it.

Also, try another cable and try the USB side of it just to eliminate things. It could be a bad cable, a bad firewire card or port, it could just be the case chipset is bad too (thus the USB test). I am assuming that you are running ME or better and that you don't need drivers for the case, but if not check to see if you have the right drivers installed. In any event, good luck with this problem and I hope that you resolve it soon so you can use that great NEC drive!

BoGMan1a thanks for your reply.
I have winXP pro and the NEC is set as Master, switch on case don't exist.

When connect the case in usb(2.0), then recognized correctly! I can write anything else except dvd-movies why when start to burn (with many dvd burners) the process stop on 1% and crab the dvd-disk.

For now i will try to update the oxford semiconstrutor and will see.
Thanks

I had this problem with a 2500 in an ADS Tech firware case. NEC's responce was "we don't support external enclosures". Fortunitely my supplier offered to swap it for a Pioneer 107 without charge.
