It doesn't matter. Just get Seagate.

that's probably why I see Maxtor all over the net on sale right now.,,,160Gb for $69 after MIR. Now, if I could only find a Seagate or Western Digital with a deal like that, I've be fixed.

To be honest I dont think it matters anymore. I used to hate WD and buy Seagate and maxtor only but alas they all seem to die eventually anyway. I have Samsung,WD,Seagate,Maxtor all in use here at the moment. I have had each brand die except the Samsung but I have only had it for about 4 months. I use mainly Maxtors for the price.

Coadman,

Checkout CompUSA. They've got a 200Gb Seagate for about $90, AMIR, this week.

Any idea how good the Hitachi drives are? They have them at BB.

Juts go for Seagate and you should be fine. They now give you 5 years of warranty on hard drives.

Hitachi isn't necessarily a bad drive nowadays, but their customer service is pitiful, and they're the only major drive company that doesn't offer advance replacement on a bad drive (Seagate, WD, and Maxtor all do). For this reason, avoid them like the plague.

I'm a huge Western Digital fan for PATA drives, but I went with Seagate for my SATA drives due to their native interface, reputation for quiet operation, performance, and support for native command queuing should I need it someday. All this, plus a 5-year warranty. I've been very happy so far, the drives are fast and whisper quiet.
