I'm looking for the best 16x drive that has good write quality and decent speed. Is their such a thing?

My top two recommendations would be the NEC ND-3500 and BenQ DW1620/1620pro

The Plextor PX-716A is also looking pretty good with the 1.04 firmware.

The plextor is defininatly much improved, but their still seems to be some issues with YUDEN000T02 and TYG02. It's strange that some can burn them like a dream while others are making coasters......

Reading over some of the posts there, it surprises me that people are under the impression that AutoStrategy has an effect on the writing quality of media known (supported) by the drive.

The only coasters I've created is with Optodisc's 16x -R media. I think its a bug with AutoStrategy and/or Nero.

Is the BenQ picky with -R DVD media?

Hmm about the TY disc's and some experienceing problems.
I did a quick look to lazy to go through the whole topic but they all seems to use FUJI TY disc's.
Now FUJI TY disc's are cheap and easy however they do seem less inconsistant as other TY disc's.(still there the real stuff !!)
I also have seen some other burners haveing problems with specific batches from time to time while others burned them fine. (Even of the same type )
It's all seems to be related to variance in quality of the drive and the media.
