New 1.05 and 1.09 Pioneer DVR-109 and DVR-A09XL firmware

Postby hydrogen on Tue Jan 25, 2005 6:04 am

I saw this at the Rpc1.org forum. Credit goes to Stewart.

Just go down the page until you see his post. It's almost at the end.

I'm not sure if these will work on US drives are not.

wow... that was fast!

Looks like Pioneer released the drive knowing it wasn't ready, and worked overtime to get an acceptable firmware out for it ASAP... kinda sounds like Plextor! :o

At least there aren't 3 hardware revisions (to my knowledge).

You should wait. The drive has been out only for a couple of days... Give them some time...

We'll probably have to wait until another Pioneer web site releases the firmware to get a change log. For some reason the change history link, on the Taiwan site, doesn't go anywhere.

I just read the rpc1.org thread again.
http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=32128&start=50

Stewart found a 1.09 firmware. It's not on the japanese web site though. Since it's not on the web site yet, I'm not sure if it's safe to try or not.

Just go to the very bottom of the page if you want to see his post.

One person here tried it out, and he said that MCC004 still only burns at 12x.
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=124252

Now, the Taiwan site has posted the 1.09 firmware. They have only posted the Dvr-109 firmware. They haven't posted the Dvr-A09XL 1.09 firmware yet.
http://www.pioneer-dvd.com.tw/d_down.asp

There's also a DVR-A09 MediaList on the Taiwan site now. Link is above.

I was reading the media list and MCC004 is listed as 16x. So, I'm confused why that guy could only burn at 12x.

Yet another drive that supports Optodisc 16x DVD+Rs but not 16x DVD-Rs

Hmm with Philips forcing on non japanese media for +R and the fact that Optodisc is really doing there job these days when it comes to sending out samples and there increasing market share. I find it quite obvious that Optodisc is supported.
So why no -R.
Well: A there still not a japanese companny and in the -R camp that still is
the key factor to support.
B +R was released a little earlier. So it could be that -R just didn't make
it in time. It's possible seeing how slow Pioneer sometimes works on
some media.
C The fact that +R 16x Optodisc media has allready is on the market
but the -R 16x version doesn't seem to be.

Hmm very interresting support list.

That is very weird. I wish I knew why it says it's supported at 16x when it can only burn at 12x.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Raygay276,

Could you update your media list with the new 1.09 firmware.
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=123767

I'm curious if any of them have changed.

Actually, I can't get Optodisc 16x DVD+Rs in any volume... only samples, and the samples are now out of stock :o However, I can get as many 16x DVD-Rs as I want, and several online stores in the US and Canada already sell Optodisc 16x DVD-Rs, but not the DVD+Rs.

Where are you seeing Optodisc 16x DVD+Rs for sale? In Europe I'm guessing?

Heh, maybe they only had one container of each type to sell, and one container went to North America, and the other to Europe?

Well MCC003 has different revisions floating arround.
There's the orringinal version.
Then there's a 1st revision
Then there's a 2nd revision
Some writers (PLextor 712) can write the second version at 12x and the first one only at 8x)
So now you say ahh easy I would just identify them by the revision code.
That's not going to work for 1st one. Since they didn't update that data on the stamper.
You can identify the disc's with the stamper code or check some serials ending on
A = OLD =>8x only on some drives.
B = New =>12x
Also DVD-identifier should give the correct max speed if I'm right. So that's another option.
The second revision does have a correct identification notification in the stamper.

Nope taiwanese source mentioned that the +R version could be found on the market. I haven't seen both of them keep in mind that a lot of european brands that have used optodisc in the past switched to mbil or prodisc ! And some will probally switch again with the 16x media.Might switch back or to another manufacturer.
For 4x media Prodisc did a much better job however we all know how great prodisc 8x media was. That's why quite some compannies are now allready looking at some new supplier.

Thank you for letting me know the story on the MCC003 media. I hope that isn't the case with MCC004.

The Pioneer Taiwan site now has the 1.09 Dvr-A09XL firmware posted. So, you can get either the Dvr-109 or Dvr-A09XL 1.09 firmware from the Taiwan site.

It gives a link where a guy tested out the Pioneer DVR-A09-J. It looks like the new 1.09 firmware was used.
