laptop for video capture

Postby faithfoo on Wed Sep 08, 2004 8:14 pm

Hi

I am looking to buy a laptop, preferrably a light one for frequent travel

What is the minimum configuration that I need to do basic video editing & capturing with softwares such as pinnacle ...

1) I must able to write a 4 GB DVD ( DVD writer ) , while being able to download e mails and work on a word document, all these 3 functions at the same time ( without the laptop getting hanged )

2) pls let me know the what is value for money

a) brand & model ( 15 inch screen )
b) Processor needed
c) Windows XP Home is stable enough
d) which version of Microsoft office is stable enough ( esp Chinese characters )
e) size of hard disk needed ,
f) memory needed,..
g) ideally the model comes with a firewire port and uSB 2 , without increasing the overall costs of the laptop

I would say Dell for sure without any doubt in my mind.

You didn't say what your budget was so I will wing it. :D

I would say either the Inspiron™ 8600 with the Intel® Pentium® M Processor 745(1.80GHz/400MHz FSB). 512 mb of ram.

Or

The Inspiron™ 5160 with the Mobile Pentium® 4 Processor 532 w/HT Technology (3.06GHz, 533MHz FSB) with 512 mb of ram.

I would highly recommend XP Pro.

Microsoft Office 2003 will be more than stable enough for your needs, any verson.

I would say a 60 gb HD min for your needs, a 5200 rpm or 7200 rpm.

Hope this helps. :)

As an added note I have a Inspiron™ 5160 and it is awesome. :D
