25 Hours of FedEx Operations

Postby aviationwiz on Wed Jan 26, 2005 10:47 pm

Just saw this on Airliners.Net, and it's pretty neat. A video of 25 hours of FedEx operations from a program called Flight Tracker.

You can see the daily exodus to & from Memphis. Click Here.

As usual, please don't post this URL outside of CDRLabs.

Does the video show your late package, Wiz?

 I was thinking the same thing, what with aviationwiz's ongoing "Fed-Ex sucks" thread.

Neat video, aviationwiz. Thanks for posting it. For some reason I am reminded of the ill-spent days of my youth, toying with the amazing focusing powers of the magnifying lens...

That's pretty neat Wiz. I never would have known that Memphis was such a busy place. I would assume that Memphis is their main East-West hub?

Memphis is their biggest hub, by far, most air & international packages go through Memphis.

FedEx also has hubs in Indianapolis (as you can see on the vid) Oakland and Ontario are also smaller hubs, along with Anchorage for Asian routes.

No, it is not their east-west hub. It is there everywhich way but loose hub. If Wiz has a package coming from New Orleans to St. Louis Park, Minn., which is north to south, it goes thru Memphis. A package from Atlanta, Ga, to Miami goes thru Memphis.

Interesting video; it immediately made me think of ants marching around (as seen from above).

I guess cfitz thought the exact same thing :)

Oh yes, the old magnifying glass games.
We used to burn holes in newspapers with them.
I think one of my brothers used it on ants (and /or other instects).

I'm not sure whether or not VEFF caught my reference...

Edit to add: Doh! #-o I didn't see that VEFF edited his post a day later and caught on to my evil game...

Mostly I burned dry oak leaves. They burned well and had sweet smelling smoke. I also melted the tar on the road, and on one or two occassions did torment some ants...

:)
I think we burned a few leaves too.
I believe newspapers were a favorite, but it was so long ago.
Thanks for the other memories it just evoked as I typed this reply. The good ol' days lol, not that things are bad now, but I think one's youth has certain special moments that you'll never quite experience later in "real" life.
I don't live in the past, so I hadn't thought about my youth in ages quite frankly.
