Harddrives,,possble conflicts?

Postby coadman on Tue Feb 01, 2005 1:03 pm

I have a Western Digital Harddrive in my present computer. Will adding an additional harddrive, by another manufacturer(Maxtor or Seagate), cause any compatiability problems? What is the differance between ATA/133 and ATA/100? Is "speed" the only differance, and are they "cross" compatiable?
thanks,

brand makes no difference. you can put hard drives of different makes toghether in the same computer no problems.

ATA/100 and ATA/133 are protocols for communication between hard drives etc. and the computer. ATA/133 is faster but it doesn't really matter because no hard drive actually reaches the speed limit of the protocol.
