Pionner 108 vs. Lite-On SOHC 5232K Scans

Postby hoxlund on Fri Feb 04, 2005 7:50 pm

Aviationwiz will be attaching some scans I did between my 2 optical drives

both drives are on there own ide channels as master with nothing else attached to eachother

this was a burn of the forgotten at 6x on TYG02 media, burned on the 108 with 1.18 hacked firmware

the first one is a scan from the litey, second one was a scan from the pio 108

which scan would you say has more credibility?

Can't say right now. Every drive is a bit different so I'm afraid you'll have to do some trials and compare the results to your compatibility experience. Let me make 2 suggestions:
- do a scan at a lower speed on the LiteOn so that it's more comparable to what your Pioneer does. A drive has a harder time scanning at high speeds. This effect is much more pronounced for DVD's than CD's. 4x CLV is the convention generally used- but I don't know if the combo-drive does 4x at CLV or CAV (like my LTD-163 DVD-ROM does).
- do a transfer rate test. I've found that some problem spots show up there that aren't apparent on the PI/PIF scan.
