Beta scale in PlexTools

Postby alexnoe on Mon Feb 07, 2005 1:01 pm

Is it just me or did Plextor change the beta scale with PlexTools 2.19a?

Interresting could you do 2 scan of a bad disc for me. (old and new)
Since the early version of plextools had the problem that Plextor borked the scale in comparision to the profesional analyzers. Multiplying it by 10 get the same results. Now your scan might suggest that plextor fixed the scale and no multiplications should be done or they still have the scale but now screwed it up even further. So please could you do a test run of a not so good disc to see what they have actually done.
I hope they actually fixed the scale. (Quite some persons allready asked for that fix so I think's it possible !)

Hmm if they fixed that one then plextor might have won some fate back.
Now let's see if the newer versions will also give us better options for jitter measurements. If they can fix that one then they actually might be worth there price again.

I'll give you a Pioneer written Ricoh DL disc, but the scan takes some time for that :)

Forget about Jitter measurement. The Plextor 712 and 716 are sometimes creating totally different pictures, meaning that at least one of them is b0rked

Actually, they changed it in Plextools 2.18

I *THOUGHT* I e-mailed you about that RJW.

It sure made my life easier when they switched, since it now conforms quite nicely with CATS and Datarius standards :D

I've just changed PxView to use the same scale, so 1.8 will show it right as well. As the pxd files do, of course, contain the raw beta values reported by the drive, PxScan is not affected, and old pxd files will be displayed "correctly"

Excellent!!

Any chance you could add a display for Maximum and Minimum Beta Values?

Hmm any idea when it was ? Hmm it seems that I might be sleeping if that is the case then I also borked up a post at cdfreaks oh well.
Hmm still the scanss in the LG topic show the 0.02 0.04 scale and that's 2.18.
Hmm It seems that I'm not really sharp these days.

Already on it :P

OK, with 2.19a, that Ricoh DL disc has a beta of >0.2 on the 2nd layer :)

about your drive PX-712 and PX-716 reporting different.
A friend of me ones meassured the same disc's 3 times and it were 3 different pictures for the jitter. So plextor has some work to do on that one.
Since the Benq drives can report it with some small variations.
(I also can say benq should add beta that way we got one good cheap tester and solve there variation problems I don't care to pay a little extra if that means they guarantee a much smaller variation.!)

It is not good. The PIsum8 rate is beyond 1000, the disc is barely readable :) You said you wanted a crap disc :)

Pictures coming ...

Yeah but why use expensive dual layer media or didn't you have another way.
I know ricoh isn't nice supported at this time. Then again the media is cheap (compared to MCC stuff)and if your drive does support it will work ok.

I didn't expect that it turned out *that* bad when I tried to record the disc. It was actually supposed to contain useful data... I seriously dreamed that pioneer had added support for newer doublelayer media with firmware 1.18 :P
Then again the media is cheap (compared to MCC stuff)
6 Euro vs 7 Euro per disc

Well if my dutch local stores can sell Ricoh media for 6.50 euro then (It should have allmost a euro DUTCH levy on it !) then it should be able to get cheaper. Note this store is normally expensive !! So I was suprised and asked if they didn't screwed up which I had expected but no they didn't.
MCC media is 10 euro a piece at the same store.

And I know amzon.de but the bastards do not ship media to holland unlike other online stores. Luckilly I have other sources that can give me good media prices.
I was just supriced that my local store could sell me Ricoh at competive price and if they can with there normal high prices and the dutch levy included then I think prices from other sources can be much lower.
