Asus DVD-RW drives

Postby Albinoni on Thu Feb 10, 2005 11:53 am

Does anybody know who manufactures the optical drives for Asus. I am thinking of buying the Asus DRW-1608P DVD-Burner, so would like to hear your feedback on this drive. Also I beleive this drive also supports DVD-RAM. I've heard rumours that Asus optical drives are manufactured by Pionner, but how can this be true when Pioneer dont even manufactur their own drive.

Yep, the DRW-1608P is another Pioneer design. As far as I can tell, ASUS licenses the design and makes the drives themselves. Like the A09, the DRW-1608P can read DVD-RAM discs, but not write to them.
