...in his forecast.

This will be our third major snowfall (this one being the biggest of the three) in the past 8 days.

Can't wait till spring...

I actually drove to the mall (AWD sedan) on Thursday night in the middle of the snow storm.
I actually enjoyed it, although you always have to worry about OTHER drivers who drive too fast or brake too late etc., possiblt due to inexperience.

The POPE.

The POPE.

Did anyone else notice The Pontiff doing his 'window wave to the world' on Groundhog Day?

One of my co-workers here wondered out loud "I wonder if he saw his shadow?"

At the time, I thought it was one of the funniest things I'd heard in months. But that was the 4am funnies. Everything is funny @ 4am.

It maybe offensive to some, but that's life in a 911 call centre/dispatch centre: Nobody is above ridicule. We slight everybody, including ourselves.

We're going to get 10cm today & another 10cm tomorrow.

I just keep the gas can filled for the snowblower.

I saw a nice pileup a week or two ago. Lady in a Celica going down a fairly large hill. Locks up the brakes and starts spinning. Her stupidness made the people behind her slam on their brakes too. Pretty soon you have a bunch of cars sliding all over. Finally a pickup t-boned her and pinner her against the curb. She'll probably think twice about doing that again.

20 cm is a decent total (originally read it too quickly and saw only the first 10).

The forecast for us is for 17.5 - 25.5 cm just slightly to the east of me and 25.5 to 35.3 cm for my immediate area.
I think (just an educated guess) we'll get about 26 cm (a little over 10 inches), although it is cold enough that we will get all snow, which may make the total slightly higher than 26 cm.

All numbers converted to cm for comparison purposes.

Hills ([very] steep ones especially of course) are always something I look at and think I am glad I don't live near any - my brother lives very near some long steep roads.

I worry about inexperienced drivers, with respect to snow I mean, which is something that probably applies to the lady in the Celica you mentioned...

ABS can obviously help (depending on the spoeed of course) - I'm not sure if her car has them, but...

ABS only goes so far. You're better off slowing down before you start going down the hill. I always find it amazing how some people like to slam on their brakes when letting off the gas would often suffice.

Absolutely. I agree.
I meant it might have made things a bit better.
I wouldn't rely on ABS performing miracles:
In snow, I always (try to) slow down when approaching or descending a (steep) hill.

Oh, yes, slamming on the brakes in snow, or worse yet on ice, should be avoided unless no other options, such as letting off the accelerator etc., exist (avoiding an accident e.g.).

OK.
All this talk of winter driving is scaring me.

Perhaps we should start a seperate winter driving tips message, so we don't hijack this thread.

I like it when people crash.
What?!!!??

Yeah. I typed that.

It's a job security thing. :D

Alcohol & driving offences keep me employed.

They are actually predicting 3 - 5 inches now and 6 - 8 further west (and north).
It was a bit of a mess getting home tonight.

Yeah, thanks to the snow we got in March, the local ski hill has done quite well. Most years, they might have 3-4 runs open by the end of the March. This year, they were able to stay 100% open. They could probably go another few weeks but are closing after today due to the lack of people.

Here are a few pics I snapped today with my camera.
