LG GSA-4165B and GSA-5165B - 8x DVD+R DL and Lightscribe

Postby Ian on Sat Mar 12, 2005 3:55 pm

LG Germany unveiled these mofos in time for CeBIT:

Image

DVD Writing Speeds:
DVD+R: 16x Max
DVD+RW: 8x Max
DVD+R DL: 8x Max
DVD-R: 16x Max
DVD-RW: 6x Max
DVD-R DL: 4x Max
DVD-RAM: 5x Max
CD-R: 48x Max
CD-RW: 32x Max

Read Speeds:
DVD-ROM: 16x Max
CD-ROM: 48x Max

Buffer Size: 2MB

Personally, I was kinda surprised by the drive's DVD-RAM writing speeds. Only 5x? Aren't we supposed to see faster speeds soon?

Well I don't plan on buying another drive until LG has a SATA drive. Then I will upgrade from my 4120b. In the meantime it will be interesting to see what LG does with their drives until that day comes.

The specs look the same. Just a fancier case.

I seen someone on cd freaks saying the 5167 had faster dvd-ram then 4165 but once I looked at jpg of 5167 i could see it said dvdram 5x in specs. odd they would have two drives 65 and 67 with the same spec.
