Install CD RW Top G BCE5224IM I am a novice!

Postby EdwardJVan on Mon Mar 14, 2005 10:02 pm

I am trying to add a CD RW I took out of an old computer. I hook it up and then both my cd rom and the cd rw drives are not present. I unplugged the CD RW and my CD ROM reappears. I would like to have both. I was told it has something to do with cable select? It appears my cd rom drive has another cable besides the power and ide cable. I assume this is the audio or cable select cable. I don't know if my computer has another one? It is a Dell OptiPlex GX 110. Regardless I really don't know what I am doing and would sincerely appreciate some help!

please just remove that third cable (audio cable), then set your cd-rw as master and cd-rom as slave

since you said the cd-rw is going in the top bay

make sure you plug the power cable into the drive too, usually first timers and 587th timers forget this step

no need to remove the audio cable.
like hoxlund said, set one drive as master and the other as slave.
you do this with the jumper on the back side of the drives.
