When speed is not so important, what dvd writer to choose??

Postby yakir on Thu Mar 17, 2005 5:18 am

I want my Desktop DVD to be mechanically&software reliable, quiet, and work most of the time with most of the formats and media including DL. What about NEC ND-3520A (is it noisy), what about LG-4613B, or Pioneer DVR-109???

Of those 3 driveslisted I would go for the NEC because it probally has the best overall burnquality. (That is if LG 1.03 firmware from LG hasn't performed miracles. Because I haven't seen much on that one.)

Hello!

I vote for the Pioneer 109. Good writer, better FW-support than NEC
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

I would go with the Plextor 716A just to get PlexTools,
and theit firmware support is second to none. Also, it
has excellent burn quality and read performance.
It cost a few bucks more, but it is worth every cent.

I haven't found NEC to be noisy, though Pioneer does have a utility that can quiet their drives far further than everyone else at the expense of drive speed.

I've had two NEC drives (2500A, 3500A) and am putting a 3520A in a client's system tonight. I've been really happy with them. If you need whisper-quiet, the Pioneer 109 is also a great drive, my only beef with it is the slower CD writing speed (32x if I remember right as opposed to 48x for the NEC drives).
