Single DVD-RW deals in retail stores?

Postby bix on Thu Mar 17, 2005 7:58 pm

Anyone know the best B&M store to get good brand single DVD-RWs? Ordering online is not exactly cost prohibitive in this case.

Thanks,
-David

Hi bix. Microcenter is the only retail store I know which sells single DVD-RW discs. They had plenty of the single pack Verbatim 4X DVD-RW discs (Made in Singapore, by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp, media code MCC01RW4X). The price for this single pack shrink wrapped Verbatim 4X DVD-RW disc is $1.99. I picked up one of these discs when I bought my TLA #0304 Plextor PX-716SA from Microcenter. I also grabbed two 2 single pack Verbatim 8X DVD-R discs (also made by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp, but made in Taiwan) for $1.29 each. Prior to buying the Verbatim DVD-RW disc from Microcenter, I bought a 5-pack of Fuji 4X DVD+RW discs (Ricoh made, media code RICOHJPNW11) from Best Buy for $9.99. The Fuji Ricoh made 4X DVD+RW discs have better write quality than the 4X Verbatim DVD-RW disc I got from Microcenter. However, both DVD rewriteable discs have reasonable quality (given that they are rewriteable discs and therefore have much higher PIE/PIF than DVD+R/-R discs). I wrote both the Verbatim 4X DVD-RW disc and the Fuji 4X DVD+RW discs at 4X--the best quality can be obtained by burning at a speed lower than 4X. The Microcenter retail store I visited didn't have any Verbatim DVD+RW discs when I was there.

Thank you tlotz, there's a Micro Center nearby, so I should be able to pick up those Verbatim DVD-RWs there.

I got (2) 5 packs of SONY DVD-RW from COMPUSA a few weeks ago. They were $9.99 each, regular price was $22.99. I guess they're on sale or getting rid of them.

Media Id is SONY000000U9. I haven't used them on my pc dvd burners or tv standalone dvd recorder yet.
