Pioneer DVR-109

Postby mikepraba on Wed Mar 30, 2005 10:20 am

I am planning to buy a Pioneer 109 OEM. can some one tell me how do I make sure the drive comes with latest F/W? I know benq HAS THE VERSION OF f/w printed on the back of the drive. is there anything i can look for on pioneer? Is F/W version 1.40 has improved the pioneer 109?

You will have to hook up the drive to check, maybe with NeroInfoTool or the ilk. According to Ian and OC-FReak, 1.40 FW has improved the drive significantly, yes.

see the problem is the retailer wont take the drive back for refund or excahnge (since it is OEM version) I just want to make sure I am gettting the right one. Also i was looking at pioneer website and there is no F/W 1.40 their latest available f/w for dvr-109 is F/W 1.17. now i am confused.

Whichever drive you get, it will be able to be upgraded to 1.40

Yeah, we were discussing it here:

I'm not surprised Pioneer USA doesn't have 1.40 online yet.. but both Pioneer Europe and Japan have it.

I wouldn't bother looking to see what firmware comes on the drive. Just buy one and flash it yourself. I highly doubt you'd find one with 1.40 yet anyway.

As far as I understand, the only difference between the buffalo and Pioneer firmware is the addition of bitsetting for DVD+R/RW.

They do have an 8.40 firmware available:

You can change back and forth as you will.

There appears to be a Windows flasher, but I haven't used it.
