Star Wars EP3 Toys

Postby Ian on Wed Mar 30, 2005 5:55 pm

While most normal people are counting down the days until the EP3 movie is released, a lot of the hard core fans have really been waiting for April 2nd... the day the EP3 toys are released.

After a huge showing for EP1, Hasbro really down played the toy release for EP2. With EP3 though, stores are going all out with various promotions, exclusives and midnight openings.

Here's my plan so far:

Toys R Us - 12:01am (this was friggin' crazy for EP1. Nerds running everywhere. I hope its like this again)
Target - 6:00am (gotta get in line for their exclusive.. only 36-48 per store!)
Walmart - Whenever.. (I hate Walmart but I gotta get their exclusive too)

Of course, I really can't buy much since Toys R Us won't have their exclusive until the 10th. To get it you need to buy $25 worth of Star Wars crap. Sigh..

Anyone else going out for toys this year?

So much for not buying much. I came away with almost all of the basic EP3 figures currently available. I also picked up the Unleashed Grievous and all of the Target exclusives. As I figured, the local Walmart didn't get any of their exclusives so I'll have to get it online.

The crowds at TRU were much more civilized that I expected. There were a few fools running, but most people just walked up to the bins and started digging for figures. The selection of toys was very good. Unfortunately they didn't have any Galactic Heroes or Super Deformed figures.

Target was another story. The store by my house handled the exclusives very well. They gave out tickets before the store opened so everyone there got one (I got 3 thanks to the wife and kid). When the doors opened, the crowd tore through the store and demolished the Star Wars section. I grabbed the cup sets and got the hell out of the way.

Anyway, here's a few pictures of my haul.

Less than I did for the last two movies. I didn't buy any vehicles this time. They always seem to end up on sale or clearance eventually. The figures (at least the good ones) never do. However, I did find a few other Unleashed on clearance for ~$4.
