If it's made in Japan it is. I really like their 8x -R discs.

I thought I saw that CC had TDK 25 packs for $7.99 without rebates on the front page of their circular.

OK, I bought two 100 packs MIJ 8X. They scan as 12x in nero and Maxell 0002.
Are these a keeper?
Nice looking disks, but I guess 12x is all I will get from these.

Are these Maxell as good as Taiyo Yuden? Will they last as long?

Based on the little that i've read.... no personal experience.

Both the Maxell -R (MXL RG03) and the +R (Maxell 0002) have been reported as high quality media. Some folks have reported reaching 16x with the -R's and 12x with the +R's. No mention of what the scans looked like. FYI, Ian used the +&-R in his NEC 3520 review.

ETP, have you tried any out with the new firmware?

-R was not MIJ, so I stayed clear. I will keep it even though it's only 12x. Disappointed but very nice looking media. May a new FW hack will burn this at 16X.

The Maxell -R 8x I got from Office Depot were MIJ (4 out of 20, the rest were MITaiwan). Guess I have to open them up and read the MID.

That was the Maxell media +RMIJ and both drives read it as 12X = 3500 and 716a. With all the work on the 3500 I thought there may be a hack for 16x with maxel0002
