Can anyone tell me which DVD media of the two at Best Buy is better? I want to get the better media (not necessarily the better value). If anyone could compare for me that would be great.

Thanks, TCAS

I'm going to get some of the Verbatim at Best Buy and give it a try.

Not media related but I noticed Best Buy (web) is offering the Pioneer A09 for $87 after $30 rebate. The A09 (retail version) comes with a nice software package, see Ian's review. The rebate might also be valid for in-store purchase.

I am on the road again, so I will look for an Office Depot in this area. Or Staple and get a price match.

In a related sale:CompUSA has a Seagate 160GB IDE HDD for $59.99(after MIR).
I've bought the Philips 8x DVD+R's in the past and they're made by CMC(EO1).

Among the brands of "Maxell, Philips, TDK, Memorex and Verbatim" only Maxell is made Japan as far as I know, since I have not seen any of other brand made in Japan. Also except for Verbatim which I have never used before, my own experiences show that I have had problem in the past with TDK, Philips and Memorex one way or another, and they all made in TIWAN. The best of them for burning with much higher speed with trouble free, have been Maxell (DVD+/-R) and Fuji (DVD+/-R) both made in Japan.

I got some TDK -R at BB several weeks ago that were made in Japan. Although DVD-identifer indicated that they are TY, they only have a one year warranty.

The MID (Media Code)for both Maxell made in Japan are as foloows:

Maxell DVD+R(8X) = Maxell 002

Maxell DVD-R (8X) = RG03

Both of these DVD+/-R (8X) are capable to be burned at 16X by NEC 3500 burner.

Are the RG03 as good as the max002?

I have had luck with both RG03 and 002 burning at 16 in my NEC 3500 with parity good quality. So far I have not experienced any difficulty with any one it.

TCAS! I flashed my drive to LDs "C" non quiet version and the 3500 still shows Max 0002 12x in Nero tools. Starts at 12x and burns a disk in 6 minutes or less and it seems to speed up during the process.

Decrypter is next!
Starts at 6.2X
8.3X
10.3X
12.4X
6:13 for Sponge Bob

So, How do you get a 16X burn?

etp; I am out of town started from April 22 and will last until April 29, as soon as I get home I will let you know what version of L/D I have ( I beleive is LD-1.4final_Fast). But I have not problem at all burning FUji DVD+/-R(8X) and Maxell DVD+/-R(8X) both at 16X with my NEC 3500 and quality of burned DVD is excellent.

TCAS! Did a Quikee2 extreme v3 FW and it shows 16X. None of the others did in nero tools including LDs current FW. So If you find LDs that is 16X when you get back , send me the link.

BTW: All Maxell 8x DVDR media will be switching to "Made in Taiwan" only now.... at least according to my source in Maxell they will. Sometimes they change their minds about these things, but since it happened with their 4x DVDRs I wouldn't be surprised.
