MSI DR 16F?

It seems to be not a Benq, because MSI uses the letter of the real manufacturer like A=Accesstek, B=Benq

Found this:

http://cdr.cz/dvd_rekordery/msi/dr16_f.html

Anyone have more info about that drive?

Optorite´s site is not up to date, the headline is "New 12x drives"

Thanks

Wasn't there a rumor awhile back about an Optorite DD1605 that never saw the light of day? Maybe this is it? With the F designation, I have a feeling it isn't Optorite anyway.

My theory? It's manufactured by Foxconn.. the company that took over production of BTC's drives. The DR16-F is probably based on the successor to the DRW1116IM.

http://www.btc.com.tw/english/2-2-dvd_rw.htm#drw1116im

If you look at the picture below and compare it to one of the BTC's drives, the bezel is different. However, the chassis is VERY similar on top and along the sides.

Hello!

I saw a difference: The MSI uses 6x DVD-RW, the BTC 1116 only 4x

Yes, that's why I said the successor to the DRW1116.

The MSI website is a bit strange. You do not find a firmware download link on the F2 page or on the burner download page, but it is here in the latest firmwares list. Direct download link.

It doesn't look like we'll be getting the DR16-F or the F2 in North America. I emailed my contact at MSI America and he let me know that they pulled out of the optical storage business back in January. :(
