Pioneer versus LG

Postby krikitty on Sat May 07, 2005 3:34 pm

I'm having a bit of a problem making a decision right now. Currently I have a Pioneer DVR-A06U (same as a A106, I understand) and it has been very reliable even if it hasn't been that fast. For speed with my CDs I use my Lite-On CD burner. Recently a friend gave me an LG GSA-4160B. Okay, I know I can exchange one for the other and am not afraid of doing that in my computer, but I can't decide whether it's worth my while to do it. From my research I can see that the LG is prone to quite a few errors in writing. It IS faster, granted, but is speed worth it? Am I better off staying with my Pioneer? Any opinions out there?

I really don't think of myself as clueless. The main reason I didn't jump to put in what I was told was a faster "more with it" drive is because I have had no problems with my Pioneer and trust the name. The only temptation, and that is very slight, was to change to a faster drive.
