Hello all,
I need some advise and help from you folks. I have Sony vaio laptop and it came with DVD/CD-RW drive. it is P$ 2.8ghz and 512 RAM. I want to upgrade the drive to DVD-R drive. Would it possible? if so where can I get the drive? does it have to be sony? or all standard size? Any suggestion for price and Brand name and where I can buy?

Of course you can. Choices are here:

You need a "slim" drive, and of those, I'd go for the NEC6500.
Q6600@3.1Ghz | Asus P5Q-E | 4GB DDR2-800 | 8800GT | 4TB HDD | Viewsonic vx2025wm
Xonar DX | Pioneer DVR-212 | Pioneer 111L | Benq 1655

Thanks for the quick response. Are they all standard size drive and would fit in a Sony Vaio KG13 laptop? Because NEWEGG says, no refunds and exchange for the same model. Is there any retail store who sells slim drives in canada? So i can try it, without getting stuck with it if it doesnt fit or work with my laptop.

Another vote for the NEC ND-6500 slimline drive.

Be careful when purchasing a laptop DVD Writer, as many of the drives are crap!!
