SafeDisc 2.51

Hello Everyone,

I'm pretty new in the DVD burning world. Planning on buying one so I begun my research I've been reading some reviews here and I noticed many of them mention SafeDisc 2.51 and 2.5. How Using CloneCD 4.2.0.2 "I was able to backup some older SafeDisc 2 protected titles" but not SafeDisc 2.51. My question is this: Is this a software issue or a hardware issue? Should I get a burner that can copy SafeDisc 2.51 or should I just ignore it because software will improve and a newer version of CloneCD will be able to Copy CDs that are SafeDisc 2.51 on burners that are up to SafeDisc 2.5 only?

So does that mean that my current CD-R burner TEAC (12X) will not copy a Safe Disc 2.51 protected disc? I thought it was perfect Wow, I guess the technology has moved forward and I haven't. What if I was to obtain an image of Safe Disc 2.51 somewhere else, can the image like that be burned on any burner or does it need to be a Safe Disc 2.51 burner?

download and run Alexander Noe's little sheep test..it will tell you exactly how powerful your burner is when it comes to copying certain formst of SD..

Unfortunately it has been a while since I did tech support for CloneCD...so the program and I have grown a bit a part. The TEAC 12x was a good burner in it's day..and it is the older burners that have the most success with SD (can anybody say, "Plextor 820")...

If your writer is not able to produce a working backup, you can always use the image file in a virtual CD/DVD drive such as DAEMON Tools to run copy protected disc.

So in another words, you can still make an exact duplicate and store it on your HD? You just cannot write it to the CD. Yes?

Yes. You should use the latest version of "cloning" software, though...

When Elby stopped with Clone CD, I switched to Alcohol 120%.

I still have Clone CD on my son's win98 system.
Only because every 4 year old needs a 4x2x24 Sony burner in his system.
