DVD-R/+R Writability has improved

It blows my mind that Pioneer still hasnt added support for Ritek or Veratim 8x DVD+RW media.

I'm not that suprised with still no 8x +RW media really available.
Okay RItek has sended out some really really limited samples but really it looks like there still haveing time.

Infact based on my info it might be better if they supported 8x DVD+R DL from Mitsubishi ealier as there 8x DVD+RW's.
(The dual layers are approved by Philips while the +RW's at least 2 weeks ago weren't and I'm to lazy to check it.)

Support Multiborder recording on DVD-R DL Media
Even Firmware 1.17 claims that it could do that (yes, you can ask the firmware if it can do that) :)

Concerning 8x DVD+RW media, amazon can help out a bit. It's really funny: 8x DVD+RW speed has been announced and has been added to drives long before 6x DVD-RW, but this morning my Verbatim 6x DVD-RW discs arrived, and i'm running the first excessive overwrite test on them right now :) I haven't had any 8x DVD+RW in my hands so far

Concerning 8x DVD+R DL:

Although those d0rks on alternate.de show this picture when clicking on Verbatim DVD-R DL media, at least the discs seem to exist :p

Maybe Pioneer don´t like Ritek?

The last review from the 109 at CDfreaks shows that Ritek R03 only burned @4x

Hmm it seems that verbatim was early with there promotion material.

Still no approved by Philips MCC 4x DVD+RW media.
There is CMC so verbatim could release some CMC coded 8x DVD+RW media if they really wanted.

From talking to some of Pioneer's OEMs, I've learned that they seem to be pro-Japan when it comes to media support. The Taiwanese discs always come much later. This really doesn't apply to Verbatim's 8x +RW media though.

I did ask Verbatim about their media last week. Final samples of their 8x +RW media are still not available, not even to reviewers. Makes you wonder what's going on.

I think Pioneer wants to practice writing on Verbatim 6x DVD-RW media a bit more:

Is anyone having problems burning Ritek DVD+RDL media with this drive/firmware combo? I can't even get the drive to recognize the BLANK disc, let alone burn it. But it works fine in EVERY other respect.

Any thoughts?

I tried the same disc in a couple burners and none of them could recognize it as even being in the drive. I wonder what Ritek had to do to that disc to screw it up so badly that nothing can even tell it's a blank DVD+RDL! :o

If it was worth my time, I'd call up Ritek and complain.... but I have little expectations for a resolution.

Even with firmware 1.40 and 1.50 I have trouble with older RITEKD01 discs being recognized ( or coastering ). :o
I had one case where the RITEKD01 disc would not be recognized at all in the Pioneer drive, but other drives were able to recognize it...

My newer batch of RITEKD01 seems to work much better. ( quality has improved )
