New FW for LiteOn 851S/SX 'GS0P'

It is not on the LiteOn official site, but I was told by the codeguys that this is an official FW. I upgraded my 851 and all seems to be working fine.

My mistake. You are correct.

I did use the flash tool on dhc014's site to flash the FW in binary version. No problems. (Back to 851 with FW GS0P).

I had flashed my 851 to the FW 851to832 and was experiencing some issues when using DvdShrink. It would start without a hitch and during the final steps of burning using Nero, it would give an error. I thought that something had gone wrong when I flashed FW 851to832. So, I wanted to go back to the 851 FW to see if that was the problem. And since I'm new at all of this, I had some problems. I contacted the codeguys and was advised on how to fix. I saw the new FW GS0P and clicked on it and yes, it does take you to
http://dhc014.rpc1.org/howto.htm site.

I downloaded the flash tool and the binary version GS0P and flashed without any problems. Once again thanks to all.

Somewhere in the process, I read to uninstall InCd. Well I did and the problems were gone. It had nothing to do with FWs. I guess it was a program issue (conflict) with DvdShrink and Incd.

Has anyone experienced this? Just to be on the safe side I kept InCd uninstalled.

I have two systems...

System #1: Does not have InCD installed. My primary system that I use very heavily. Running XP.
System #2: Does have InCD installed. Not my primary system, and thus I don't use it as heavily. Running XP.

System #1 uptime since last reboot: 59 days 23 hours (and still going)
System #2 uptime since last reboot: a few days ago

Strange that the system that I use more is actually more stable, huh? In fact, I usually reboot my secondary system about twice a week. Over half of those reboots have been caused by InCD crashing, hanging, or otherwise causing problems. Granted, I had more problems than this back when I used DirectCD... but, eh, you learn to live with it after a while.

Perhaps reinstalling InCD would help. Or making sure that you have the latest version.

I just got the Nero 6 Ultra/Reload with InCd version 4.0.3.5 release date 9/17/04. But I think there are still issues with InCd and other programs. Last January, I bought DVDXCOPY Platinum (no longer using it) and I had issues with InCd and DVDXCOPY. It would copy then when it came time to burn it would fail. Once removed, the problems ended. I don't know what it is, but I will continue to keep InCd off the system for now and wait until I research this further.

Just bumping this to let you know I had the same problems with InCD. I think it's best to just leave it uninstalled.

.....well, now that I started this......I've been checking around for the best firmware for the 851S and it seems like it is GS0F. Anyone want to confirm this?

LiteOn made a lot of changes after GS0F. I'm not quite sure what all those changes are. The firmwares after GS0F seem to be based on 812S firmwares.

In any case, it seems that there are a number of x51S drives out there that don't work very well on these later firmwares, starting with GS0H (in addition to the official LiteOn 851S firmwares like GS0H or GS0P, this would include 832S firmwares like VS0G or even CG5G). For people with drives that don't work well with these firmwares, GS0F is the best firmware for you. But for most 851S drives, the newer firmwares--GS0H/K/P, VS0x, etc.--work just fine. Find out if your drive likes the newer firmwares or not. If so, then go with GS0P (or VS0G). If not, then stick with GS0F.

Then I think you're fine. Only a small minority of users encounter problems with the new firmwares.

Anything in common with this small minority of users? I guess if I had problems it would stop burning in the middle of the burn or give me a bunch of errors or something like that?
