Two DVD burners now...what should I do with my CDR Burner?

I have two DVD Burners now in my tower.....when I installed my Aopen DVD burner last weekend I removed my Sony CDR burner (about two years old). I am wondering if I should purchase a another power cable and stick in back in my tower.....or just save it and stick it in another tower down the road.

What are most of you doing? 90% of what I burn is DVDs......but I do burn the CD....my sony always worked well and is 52x although I could only get it to burn at 48X? It was quite good at reading as well.

Thoughts?

I still generally use my Plextor CD-RW drive for burning CD-Rs... I've found many DVD burners don't put the effort into CD-R support that was available in CD-R burners, so I like still having the 'ol Plextor around.
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R

10-4, I couldn't pitch it either. I've got my
NEC ND-3520A DVD-RW,
Toshiba DVD-ROM, and my
Memorex (LiteOn) CD-RW going right now.

I use the Toshiba for most reading and the Memorex for most CD burning.

OTH, Hox EBays his old ones, which aren't that old because he buys one of each as they come out.

I slapped mine in the main box... nice to have multiple drives so I don't have to change cd's all the time for games.

OTOH I do likes me some ebay. I have sold plenty a drive on there but it's hard to get more than $20 for a used cd-burner... even a Plextor.

So either keep it or trade it in for a lap dance.

its been awhile since i had a cd-rw drive, like a year id say

ive found my 716a burns my TY cd-r just fine, don't miss my plextor premium cd-rw at all

and yes i always pitch my new old equipment on ebay

speaking of which, anyone looking to buy the heatsink in my sig?

It depends on burners. Many DVD burners can burn only up to 32X or 40X CDs so better keep your CD burner. Latest NEC DVD burner ND-3540A was selling for $40 last weekend at Newegg and that model can burn CDs up to 48X making any CD burner obsolete. This model is 16X DVD burner and can burn DL DVDs up to 8X. I got rid of my Asus 52X CD burner for good.

how fast do you need to burn cds? how impatient can one person be?

my plextor burns cd-rs at 48x, but i always pick 16x burning

Agreed! It's not like with DVDRs and there is actually a huge time difference :wink: I think 16x or 24x recording is MORE then enough :D

Hello!

You have the Aopen DUW 1608? It seems to be a good CD-burner, no need for your Sony (which is 99% a Liteon)
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

Hey Slim; What happen to your AOpen 1608 or 1608@1616?, you are not mentioning that drive?. Did you let it go, returned it to OfficeMax?, Hey if yes, then that is not fair that you did split.

TCAS,

I bought that when my NEC ND-3500A went in on RMA. It was a good burner, but I didn't need two when the NEC came back as an ND-3520A :D

So, I sold it to a mate here for $30. (Kind of a Hox deal, but much easier.)

Do you want to meet at that Deli at the NE corner of Clark and Willow for a sandwich? I'm good for any day but Wed. this week.

OT, but what's the track record for these failing in this forum? I still have this and am in no rush to replace it (not quite as hardcore as most of you :oops: ).
