got tired of waiting for benq 1640 ordered a nec 3540 today

Postby wicked1 on Fri Jul 08, 2005 10:49 pm

Newegg had the nec 3540 for 40+2 shipping so $42.00 total. I ordered that and 200 TY 16X dvd-r's from rima. I plan on having lots of fun this week doing scans against my pioneers. Is there any scanning software for linux? I hate having to dual boot just for nero toolkit. Nerolinux rocks so far.Expect to here from me about rip speeds and hacked firmware.

The 3540 seems to be a great drive, but I'm still going to hold out for the 1640. Hopefully its only a few weeks to a month away, according to the latest rumors.

Hello!

After reading the review I can´t believe that the Benq can do better; but maybe the Benq is better for scanning

This pack of TDK DVD-R 8X is by far the worst discs I have ever used. I bought them on sale for 6.99 a 25 pack at Circuit City last week to hold over till my TY 16X get here. Almost half of the pack has been coasters. Major read issues toward the end of the disc. I have burned them in my Pioneer 107 and 108 and now the NEC with bad results still.Yet to pull of a full disc burn,This is a 3 gig burn.

burned at 8X on my NEC 3540. (sorry no pics yet website full)

Too bad you didn't wait for the BenQ DW1640, which can burn them just fine

No... just that I've finished burning all 126 DVDR/RW/DL discs I intend to, and can now move on to the MUCH shorter CD-R burning/testing stage.

I'm not sure if all the results will be included in the review, but I'll release a master PDF spreadsheet which can be used as an easy look up file for BenQ DW1640 owners.

Nice :)

And don´t waste to much time for using CD-R´s for 12x-32x-speed that sold out 3 years ago ;)

No worries... And CD-Rs burn/test so quickly it'll be done in 1-2 days... I'm going to test a few Mini DVD-R/RWs first though. Those are quick and fun to play with :D

Nice to have a review, but can't do anything with it if don't have the product.

I think I'll release some preliminary data for everyone to chew on while I'm doing all the transfer rate and ripping tests. Probably most people are interested in the burn quality info, and that's what I'm just about finished working on.

Sound good? Or should I just hold everything back until the final review goes up?
