I was absolutely gutted by this news.

As a long-time regular viewer of the US news programmes (I watch at least one of them every night, sometimes 2 or 3) I had a huge amount of respect for Peter Jennings and the ABC programme, he was my favourite and most trusted US news anchor/editor.

Somehow the news just won't be the same without the guy. Just saw tonight's ABC broadcast on BBC News24, very moving.

RIP Peter :(

I am shocked, since it wasn't long ago he made the announcement that he had (lung) cancer.

He was a class act and will undoubtedly be sorely missed by many.

It's a difficult thing when a man full of such honesty, integrity, and objectivity passes away. Hearing this news was like being gut-punched; I am still really saddened by it.

Of all those who have done the news while I was growing up (I did get to see the tail-end of Walter Cronkite's career, but I was a kid) Jennings had more class than anyone else I've known. What with him and Tom Brokaw no longer reporting nightly news, an era has passed in journalism...I don't really think things will be the same.

RIP, Peter...the world was a better place for you being in it.
