Trouble with Plextor Premium reading CD-Rs...

Postby Rfire on Mon Aug 15, 2005 8:22 am

I am having some strange trouble lately with my Plextor Premium. It will read audio CDs (pressed), and pressed data CDs at a decent speed, but if I put in ANY CD-R (regardless of brand) that has data it takes about 2 minutes to spin up, and will read at like 1-2x maximum.. It also still APPEARS to burn CDs fine... I don't understand this..

If I copy a file it will start out copying at just 60-70kilobytes per second and then go up from there gradually to about 1x-2x speed, but no faster.

Using the latest firmware (1.06)

DMA IS enabled, I double checked.

Tried burnt Taiyo Yuden media branded as Fujifilm, tried Verbatim, tried Maxell.. all the same thing.

Yes, firmware 1.06, unless there's a beta firmware floating around that's newer than that.

And yeah tried CD-RW as well (Maxell)

i would try moving the drive to another computer and see if it functions properly there. if not i'd suggest contacting Tech support.
