Aopen combo drives: some quick ?'s

Postby MonsterMan on Tue Aug 16, 2005 5:43 pm

Ok, looking at this drive.

Now, I was wondering:

A) Is it quiet? This is a major factor here; the reviews on the 'egg say yes & no.
B) Hows it's ripping speed for DVDs? Both single/double layer.
C) Does it take awhile to recoginize a disc once it's inserted? The reviews at newegg say it does...that could be very annonying...

And finally, what's the overall opinion of Aopen optical drives?

Thanks!

The actual model name is the COM5232/AAH PRO... not 91.5TD37.304 or whatever Newegg has.

AOpen's optical drives are hit and miss. Some are excellent.. other's are junk.

Here's my thoughts on the non-PRO version of the COM5232/AAH:

Don't ask me any specifics. I reviewed that drive some time ago and don't remember.

Hmm...I don't get how a drive so fast at reading double-layer discs can rip DVD-Video discs so slowly.

Time to dig up info on Samsungs drives :)

Any ideas what the differances between the Pro/non-Pro versions are?
