The main differences between DVD-R and DVD+R nowadays is really just that DVD-R is more compatible with old (read: 5 years old) dvd players.

All new devices on the market now are mostly compatible with both, except video game consoles, where depending on the type of drive used in that particular version, might only work with one or the other.

Also, the DVD+RW and DVD+R DL formats are light-year's ahead of the DVD-RW and DVD-R DL formats.

I prefer DVD+R most of the time, just my personal preference.

Hello!

I prefer DVD-R, because it´s the most compatible format.

If you have the Benq 1640, I recommend you DVD+R, the Benq like it more than DVD-R. But if you buy only good media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim, the Benq works also fine with -R.

And If you backup important data, use only good media. For absoluty important data I use TY and Verbatim, burn the data on both DVD.
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

Could you please briefly explain why?

Thank you.

DVD+R DL can be bitsetted to DVD-ROM DL = very good compatibility

DVD+RW can be erased in under 5 seconds, -RW needs over 30 seconds

DVD+RW can be played without finalization when recorded in a DVD-Video-Recorder, -RW need some minutes to finalize.

But I don´t know If DVD+RW canbe used for VR-Mode?

However, -R and +R are almost equal.

You need to be careful if you have, say, a main PC and a laptop (or even two PCs). My main PC has DVD-writer dual-format. My laptop DVD drive, however, can only read DVD-R/RW discs, not DVD+R/RW (I found this out myself by trial and error). I therefore always use DVD-R/RW for stuff that I may want to copy to my laptop at some future date.

What drive do you have in the laptop?
