Traxdata announces DVD-R Dual Layer 4X

Capelle aan den IJssel, 27th September 2005 - Conrexx Technology, the European subsidiary of the RITEK Corporation, announces the launch of the new Traxdata DVD-R Dual Layer 4X. As one of the first brands to market this exciting development in capacity, the Traxdata DVD-R Dual Layer 4X has two layers to record to with a capacity of over 8.5GB.

Offering nearly twice the capacity of a single 4.7GB layer disc, the Traxdata DVD-R Dual Layer 4X allows you to record 4 hours of DVD quality video without ever having to change discs and with speeds of up to 4X you can burn a massive 8.5GB of data or video in approximately 25 minutes.

“As one of the first to introduce this new high-capacity media, Traxdata again proves to be a true pioneer in the field of optical storage media” said Floris Evers, Marketing Manager, Conrexx Technology B.V. / RITEK Europe. “We are delighted to be able to give our customers the very latest technology supported by the quality Traxdata brand.”

Dual Layer media is based on the principles of –R format whereas the existing Double Layer media has been developed from the +R format but both share similar technology. Dual Layer media is compatible with most popular DVD based video players, game consoles, DVD drives and DVD playing devices so the consumer does not have to replace their hardware to take the advantage of the technology.

Traxdata DVD-R Dual Layer media will be available in Jewel Case packaging throughout various European resellers and retailers.

And yes, frank1.. I know that CD Freaks has a preview of this media:

I'd definitely read it before picking up this media as a number of drives don't support it yet.

Ritek hopes that support will be there when this product arrives to the market. At this moment it is quite mixed when it comes to support.
But some manufactuerers currently not supporting it are working on it.

If people are really interested I could try to get a more official answer on the deadline for the traxdata dual layer -R media.

Ian don't you got any samples yet of the ridata -r dual layer from Ritek USA ?

Usually yes. I asked for these a few weeks ago and still have not gotten any. I'm still waiting for a MiniWriter too. :(

Reading that preview at CDF, I'm quite surprised to see that the L-O 1693S has done so well with the discs! Good job, guys.

It looks like mine finally shipped out yesterday. From what it sounds, I'm not the only one they missed. The shipping department now has to verify shipments with their marketing person so nothing gets missed. #-o
