What problems to look out for with Benq 1640?

Postby Nil Einne on Fri Sep 30, 2005 3:06 am

Hey all

Just got my Benq DW1640. Unfortunately it's a made in China and is July 2005 original firmware BSHB. Hopefully it will be okay but can any confirm what problems I should look out for?

1) Not able to read at highspeed with clean media with latest normal firmware, speed drops during read a lot etc
2) Quality scans with high quality media are consistently poor
3) Not able to read at maximum speed with riplock free firmware (MCSE) with clean media

1) Not able to read at highspeed with clean media with latest normal firmware, speed drops during read a lot etc

A) Never has been a problem for me.

2) Quality scans with high quality media are consistently poor

A) The DW1640 is one of the best DVD quality testers on the market. Possibly *the* best. It has it's faults, but I'd say 95% of the time the results are very consistant with the performance of the media tested.

3) Not able to read at maximum speed with riplock free firmware (MCSE) with clean media

A) It doesn't HAVE a riplock. 16x read speed on DVDR, DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, and 12x on DVD9 or DVDRDL.

in a nutshell: this is one of the best drives available now, be glad you got it, don't be worried about any possible problems.

just update to the latest firmware.

good luck and enjoy.
