Funny that I didn't see this news on any optical media sites but on quite some gameing sites computer it can be found and no it's not old.

According to Toshiba there sill is a possibility for a unified format up to the end of this year.

Yeah, if Toshiba quits. They need to realize they are fighting a useless battle, they have no chance to win this...

Toshiba knows damn well that Blu-ray isn't going to come back to the table now. Both sides had their chance months ago and neither backed down. Once again, they're trying to discredit Blu-ray, making them look like the bad guys.

Toshiba and the DVD Forum must have hired George Bush's campaign people. They could probably make mother Theresa look bad.

I can't believe how dirty HDDVD is fighting now.... just as bad as DVD+R when they were pushing all the superiorities over DVD-R... that never actually materialized in the format :o
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R

Well most of DVD+R superiority commands was based on some actuall evidence. It was just that they took the points on which +R was better and just ignored any disadvantages +R has.
However the DVD-R then didn't do this type of advertiseing why they simply could.
However this time it seems that the sides have turned but there is a significant difference incase of Blu Ray HD DVD the DVD forum is usseing misinformation why the +RW alliance was just vague or just limiting the info.
