Windows Vista To Ship Without HD-DVD Support

Postby Ian on Wed Nov 16, 2005 12:21 pm

After HP makes a big stink about native HD-DVD support you get this from Microsoft:

He said the initial version of the new operating system, due out next year, will not work with HD DVD drives, but the company will try to make the operating system compatible with them as early as possible.

What does that mean exactly?
Does it mean you won't be able to view purchased HD-DVD movie content via the OS or that the OS won't recognize the drives at all the way they currently recognize regular IDE CD or DVD drives?

I think it just means that the play back capabilities won't be built into the OS.
