Problem backing up Madagascar

Postby georgeg on Wed Nov 23, 2005 8:19 pm

Has anyone managed to back up their copy of the Madagascar DVD? My step son has a couple of wee ones in his life now and I'd rather they load a replacable backup than the original disk. When I originally tried to back up the DVD, I got a message that the disk was encoded. Using DVDFab Decrypter, I managed to create a file set to back up that wasn't encrypted but when I try to backup the files, I get an out of memory message. I've used DVDShrink and another popular DVD backup utilty whose name escapes me at the moment. The PC I'm burning this on has 512 mb of ram and over 180 gb of free space on the hard drive. I also increased the virtual memory to 5 gb as my original out of memory message specified being out of virtual memory. Any ideas why this disk won't copy?

I backed up the full screen version using DVD Decrypter. Set it to remove structure protection and be aggressive in the options. Then I ran it through CloneDVD2 to remove trailers and other useless stuff. Finally I had DVD Rebuilder re-encode the disc down to a DVD5. Worked flawlessly. Everything I used is either free or has a trial version so give my method a try.

Well, if you ripped the files OK then I would think you could rule out the it is a problem with the movie. Did you try to play the ripped files on your computer?

Try this:

Use DVD Decryptor in ISO mode to rip.
Use DVD Shrink in ISO mode to... well... shrink .
Use DVD Decryptor to burn the new ISO to DVD.

I have the widescreen version and I will give it a go.

EDIT: Seems to have worked OK by backing up only the movie and not the other filler / junk.

Mad. has a new form of ARccOS protection which the new version of DVDFab Decrypter will defeat:

It may be in just the widescreen version though. DVD Decrypter and CloneDVD2 were able to handle the full screen version without any problems.

Latest Slysoft AnyDVD defeats Macrovision's new RipGuard technology too, which is the type of protection used on the Madagascar DVD:
