New BenQ 1640 Firmware (BSNB) Is Out

Postby TCAS on Fri Dec 09, 2005 5:14 am

BenQ has just released new F/W for its BenQ 1640 (BSNB), refer to BenQ WEB site for the dolwnload. I have upgraded to this new one not that impressed. Burned some TY T02 (MIJ) and Maxell RITEK R03 (MIT) but still the CDRLABS has problem adding attachment or the site management purposely has banded the attachnment function which is too bad.

So what is next move?, just give-up any uploading all together from now on?, or there is a way to clean and delete the previous uploaded files?. How others (sites) deal with this issue?, I haven't seen any problem with others yet.

Wanted to buy Benq 1640 for a friend yesterday - and was surprised to find out that it's no longer available in most places....

That DQ60 - is it worth buynig or should I pay extra $25-30 for 1640 OEM version (Plextor 740, Sony 810). I know DQ60 has RAM capability, but is it comparable to DVD/CD writing quality of 1640 ?

And, if I buy Plextor or Sony, would I be able to change their firmware for the original Benq's ?

this should have probably been in a separate post, not related to this thread..

You'll have to delete some of your older pictures:

Otherwise you could become a subscriber. Then you'd have a 250MB quota.

No, DQ60 is bad. Very bad if initial reports are indicative.

Scans show that the write quality is not as good as the 1640. Some features of QSuite also do not work with the new drive (which is an OEM Teac drive, if I remember correctly).

Avoid this drive. Go with an OEM of the 1640 like the Sony or Plextor.

Yes, you can crossflash using one of the flashing tools like BQFlasher.

External firmware also updated (now BEGB) and available here:
http://support.benq.com/front/BenqMain.asp?MenuHead=128&ShowType=program&FileURL=service/driverlist.asp&Dataid=19957&downloadclass=Driver&product=3731&langu=null&ops=null&GenMenu=&RootId=undefined

Can be used on internal drive as well to enable UDMA4 (versus UDMA2 of BSNB).

Because they're slow

Like most US subsidiaries, BenQ USA always lags behind.
