So what am I doing wrong here . . .

DVD and Blu-ray Disc authoring, editing, copying and transcoding.

So what am I doing wrong here . . .

Postby chris_the_fan on Sat Jan 07, 2006 10:17 am

I have a DVD Ripper (DVD Decrypter), and a rip the DVD. Then I can burn the small DVD's with Roxio (less than 7.4 GB). If it is over 7.4 GB I try to use DVD Shrink 3.2.

Well, then I click on "Open Files," choose the folder the ripped files went in, and lick open, and a error message error comes up. It says: "DVD Shrink encountered a error and cannot continue. Failed to open file "C://(filename)/VIDEO_TS.IFO" The systems cannot find the file specified."

So I have no clue what I am doing wrong. I originally thought the DVD-R I had were not big enough (120 minute/7.4 GB), but now after looking in the file where the ripped DVD is, it only has two files. The MDS and the ripped file.

Anyone know what is going on here or what I am doing wrong?

since you say there was an MDS file, it seems to me you were running DVD Decrypter in ISO Read mode.
yup, just tried opening a DVD i have in ISO form with DVD Shrink, i get the same error message.
you need the FILES, not the ISO.

so you need to do one of 2 things:
1. run DVD Decrypter in File mode.
2. either run daemon tools or some other utility that let's you emulate a CD/DVD disc and you can mount the .iso file and access the files therein.
or use WinRar to extract the files from the .iso file.

After running the ripper in file mode, and tring to open the files, this message caome up when tring to open the files in DVD Shrink.

"DVD Shrink encountered a error and connot continue. Invalad Data file in "C:(filename)/VTS_08_1.VOB."

Now what am I doing wrong?

Almost got it . . . . now the files are too big for my DVD-R, so in DVD Shrink, which files should I leave off?

that's up to you.
first of all remove all audio tracks that are not english (if any).
next remove all subtitles you don't want.
then you can remove any menus, extras etc.
finally you can edit the film a bit, cut out a few seconds at the beginning and a few minutes at the ends (credits, titles etc) so that the shrinkage will be minimal.

DVD Shrink.

File > Open Disc Image (Ctrl + I).

Works fine for ISO files.

cool! thanks redk.
never notice that (there's now button for it on the toolbar! jusr for Open Disc and Open Files. that's why i missed it). i'd always mount the image with Daemon-tools. now one step less.

no idea.
i suggest you post this (with more info - exactly what you are trying to burn, what's your hardware etc.) in the Nero forum.
also, try other media (although this doesn't seem to be the problem as far as i can read the logfile.

update to the latest version of Nero 6.6
