How to Get LightScribe to work with Nero 6

Postby Derek G on Sun Jan 22, 2006 3:31 pm

Nero seem not to tell you that you need to download the LightScribe API from http://www.lightscribe.com/support/index.aspx?id=305. You should get a file called LS_Update_1.4.56.1_.exe which if you run, will install the missing API that goes with Nero 6 to enable the LightScribe functionality.

The download contains the actual API file called LS_HSI.msi and a copy of this is included in the bundled Nero version given away with most new LightScribe drives. Be careful though, the bundled LS_HSI.msi has been amended (possibly by Nero's developers) and will only install successfully when invoked by Nero's Setup program.

For your information, I have successfully got LightScribe to work from Nero version 6.6.0.14 onwards, although earlier versions 6.6.0.?? may also work perfectly.

We do have information about this posted on the Nero website as well, if you go to www.nero.com/us/LightScribe.html

Craig,

Excellent piece of information, the only problem is, you only see http://www.nero.com/us/Products.html to start searching around if you are a US resident accessing the internet from inside North America. On the other hand, I am a UK resident and we see a different Nero Home page and Products page i.e. http://www.nero.com/eng/Products.html. The only product we see is Nero 6 Reloaded, nothing about Nero Ultra edition.

That said, it's good we Europeans can get this kind of help from North America because Nero's marketing policy of constraining your web access by birthright is a real disaster when their site maintenance gets behind. Nero could do with a full blown search function that provides a knowledgebase - irrespective of birthright.

Thanks again Craig.

Hi Derek,

This all comes down to marketing. We have found that what works for Marketing in the US, does not fly for many European countries. And the same goes for the Asian Countries. So we have to approach the various markets differently. Nero 6 Ultra Edition is the same as Nero 6 Reloaded. You'll find below the link for this for the European countries who have Nero 6 Reloaded

http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/LightScribe.html

So we have one portion of our website controlled by our US Market team, and another portion controlled by the European Marketing team. And of course they do not see eye to eye on how exactly the websites should be set up. :-)

Unfortuneately, this can and does cause confustion. This is something we are looking into to try and resolve, and yet keep the marketing messages seperate for the various markets. Its a fine line to walk.

The good thing is our support team does not have to walk this line, and they will respond to either side. 8)

Best Regards,

Craig
