LiteON SHW-1635S & Bitsetting DVD+RW media

Postby dolphinius_rex on Mon Jan 23, 2006 1:11 am

Hey guys,

Has anyone gotten bitsetting to work on the LiteON SHW-1635S with DVD+RW media?

Right now, the only way I can get it to work at all, is using LiteON's bitsetting tool, and doing it AFTER a burn. I can't get ANY software to make it work before a burn is done on a disc.

I've used Nero CD/DVD Speed, and Nero Burning Rom. I'm running firmware YS0V (also tried YS0R).

Are you doing a review?

I have that drive. I have never tried rewritable media. If I can find a blank DVD+RW layng around, I'll try it. I have read that this drive doesn't work real well with RW and I don't really use it anyway. I have used DVD+R with bittsetting and it worked fine.

So far this drive has given be nothing but good burns. I have tried Verbatim + and - DVDs @ 16x and Fuji +R (TY) @8x. I have also burned a few CDRs (Fuji - TY) with great results.

What about DVD+R media? Does that work normally?

Yup, the review is nearly done  Just finishing up some of the details, like bitsetting and such.

And yeah, DVD+R works ok, it's just DVD+RW that seems glitched.

i don't understand:
you're supposed to be able to bitset the DVD+RW disc before you burn it ???
is this something all DVD+ drives are supposed to be able to do, or just a feature of Lite-On drives ?
