-RAM refers to support for reading and writing DVD-RAM, a rewritable DVD standard. The Benq will be better if you don't need -RAM capability.

In Europe, DVD-RAM is neither obsolete nor dead, in the contrary, it is starting to live. You can easily find 5x speed DVD-RAM media in a couple of shops

In Germany u will get everywhere DVD-RAM-media. It´s only a bit harder to find 5x-media, but 3x-media it´s not a problem.

@jlaavenger

If u need DVD-RAM, buy a LG :)

If u don´t need it, a Benq 1650 or 1655 should be your first choice
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

Thanks for the tipp :)

But at the moment I only have a 1640 without RAM and a LG 4082 with only 3x-RAM.

But I´m sure I will buy soon again a DVD-writer with RAM, maybe with 12x or 16x :)
