Looking for a new Video Card

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking for a new video card. I have an Asus P4G8X-Deluxe mobo and currently using an Asus MX-440 64 mb AGP video card. What would be the advantages of 128 vs 256 and which brand? TIA.

if you're not looking for a gaming card, i recently bougth the Gigabyte GV-R955128D card.

it's based on the Radeon 9550 chipset, has VGA, DVI and TV outputs, 128 MB memory, 128bit bus. passive cooling (no fan at all).

i'm pleased with the 2D picture quality. and the silence!

Finally bought the Nvidia 6200. Its the BFG Geforce 6200 OC 256mb.

Took the BFG 6200 OC back and got the PNY Ge-Force 6600 256mb. Hope I made the right choice.

I guess it depends on what you want to do. It's a better choice than the 6200 (which is a decent business/web-surfing/word-processing vid card, but not much beyond that) but you really haven't told us what you plan to do, and what your target budget is. It also does depend a bit on what monitor you have and the resolution you normally run at, especially if you game.

If you're a heavy gamer, an nForce 6800GT card is probably still the best bang-for-buck, there are plenty used available on Ebay and other sources. There are also a fair number of closeout deals on ATI Radeon X800/X850 series AGP cards from online e-tailers.

If you want a gaming-on-a-budget card, an nForce 6600GT card is good budget choice, and has the plus of better video playback capabilities than the nForce 68xx cards while being cheaper, though not as fast in games.

Finally, if your gaming is limited to titles that aren't 3D-intensive, and the rest of your time is spent surfing, watching video, or in regular business apps, the Geforce 6600 you chose is a decent card. It will still run most 3D game titles but you may have to lower your resolution to 800x600 in some cases, or turn off visual features for best results.

Actually, I'm not much into gaming. Not that I don't enjoy one here or there, but don't play much. I wanted something that would give me a better look.

Basically, I have an ok system.

System: P4G8X-Deluxe board, 1 GB mem, P4 2.66, SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum, 1-200 GB WD HD, 1-30 GB Quantum HD, 160 GB WD HD, Antec True 480, Plex 716, and Litey 52x24x52 all in a Thermaltake Xaser V.

This is where the new video card comes in. I had an Asus 64mb 9180 serious card and I wanted something better. I think I improved with the new card and I do get a better look on screen. I have a ViewSonic V-900x flat screen and it has served me well.
