Where to get DVD+RW 8x media?

Postby MonsterMan on Thu Mar 09, 2006 7:40 pm

Only stuff at the local stores in 4x at best. Online, I've never even seen it.

I'd like a 3-pack or so...I don't use 'em often, but it would be nice to have around...
BenQ 1655, BenQ 1620, LG 4167, Plex PX-716SA, Samsung SH-S162L, SH-S182M, Pioneer 111D, Lite-On SHM-165H6S and 1.9TB of HDDs to feed 'em and an X2/4800 to crunch for 'em.

It's not available from Verbatim yet. Only the 6x DVD-RWs are. RiData has released theirs though I think, maybe try meritline or newegg?

I picked up some Ridata 8X DVD+RW (RITEK008) and Ridata 6X DVD-RW (RITEKW06) from Supermediastore.com, but I have not had much luck with them on several of my burners.

Personally, I would stick with 4X.

i find this rather ludicrous.
what's the point of buying an 8x +RW capable drive if there's no Verbatim 8x +RW media ???

The Ricoh W21 (original Ricoh branded) burns very nicely on my DW1640 and GSA-4163 and burn times are truly halved from 4x burns. Bought yet another 5 pc pack the other day from SLS, SG (of course).

I saw 8x DVD+RW at Micro Center once... haven't seen it since. Go figure.

I was at my local MicroCenter store today, and they had the 8x DVD+RW Memorex (made in Taiwan) media. I have a Pioneer 110D and wondered if this media might write at 8x in this burner. I checked the Pioneer approved-media list, but it doesn't provide any information, and a search of VideoHelp didn't show any hits. I also couldn't find anything in the reviews of this burner.

Anyone tried this media in the 110D.

Thanks

Pioneer's support for 8x DVD+RW media has always been poor. Last time I checked, Ricoh media was supported at 8x. If Memorex's media is made by Ritek (and it probably is), the drive writes to it at only 3.3x.

Edit: Verbatim seems to be supported at 8x finally. No mention of Ritek though.

Thanks for the link Ian. The list of media on the Pioneer USA site is dated September 2005 and does not reflect the changes resulting from the 1.39 firmware upgrade.

I've never seen Ricoh +RW media in my area, so I'll hold on and look for the Verbatim.

EDIT: A new media compatibility chart was added to the Pioneer USA site at:

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/s ... 50,00.html

The chart is dated 01-26-06.

I have received those in June 2005 ( :D :D ) , they work wonderfully in NEC 3540/4550, but totally b0rk in Pioneer and Plextor drives.

Well... NEC, the King Of Quality :)
