Burn rings when burning a DVD?

Postby jayhump on Sun Apr 16, 2006 2:10 am

When I burn a .img or video files to a DVD it appears to burn rings in the DVD media. I have a Sony DRU-800A DL DVD burner. I use verbaitm and sony only media. When you look at the DVD media and it has light and dark rings around the DVD and it will either start to play in a DVD player and freeze or it will never load at all. Does anyone know why this happens or know how to prevent it? Everyone’s help will be appreciated.

Thank you,

J-

Usually a sign of Z-CLV burning; ie, instead of doing a constant speed increase as it burns, the drive is burning a chunk at 4x, then 6x, then 8x, etc.

Shouldn't be a problem, but you may want to use Nero's CDSpeed (available free at www.cdspeed2000.com) to do a quality check...
BenQ 1655, BenQ 1620, LG 4167, Plex PX-716SA, Samsung SH-S162L, SH-S182M, Pioneer 111D, Lite-On SHM-165H6S and 1.9TB of HDDs to feed 'em and an X2/4800 to crunch for 'em.

thank you to both of you for replying. I had no idea what was causing these rings and no one I talked to did either. I never though speed change could cause something like that. Every disc that is like that will either freeze when playing or wont load at all!!

again thanks for the reply!!

Sounds like it's time to upgrade the firmware or get a new burner to me. :o I've never heard of this before.

Can you take a picture of the bottom of the disc and post it?
