nero problem

Postby neronewbie on Wed Apr 19, 2006 9:25 am

Hello

Can somebody help me because whenever I try to burn a disc with nero I always get the Image save file popup. But now I see that I can only choose the Image recorder to burn cd's and that my Philips CDRW/DVD combidrive is not detected. How can I let nero detect this drive manually because autodetect doesn't work. Please help so that I can enjoy this program.

Greetings

Open Nero Burning Rom and click Icon choose Recorder then select your drive and that should do it.

for some reason Nero isn't detecting your drive.

1. what is the exact model number and firmware version of your drive ?
2. what is the version of Nero you are using ?
3. what happens when you try running Nero CDSpeed, Nero InfoTool ? do they "see" the drive ?
4. is the drive properly recognized and does it appear in Windows Explorer (My Computer) and in the Device Manager ? what version of Windows are you using?

Hello

I can tell you That It's a Philips DVD/CD-rw drive but the model number or firmware version I don't know. Can you tell me how to get this info in Win XP service pack 2? It is an internal drive and therefore I don't have separate drivers for it because it was installed also by the manufacturer of the pc. Also Windows XP was already installed. I'm using Nero version 5.5.9.17 and when I run Nero CDSpeed and Nero InfoTool the drive is recognized without any problems. Also the drive is correctly recognized in My Computer and also in the Device Manager it doen't report a conflict or problem with the drivers. That's why I find it so strange because in windows everything seems to be ok only Nero doesn't recognize the drive. The only chose I can make is to select the Image recorder in Nero. Please help me to solve this problem.

first of all, the latest version of Nero 5.5 is 5.5.10.54, see if you find an update on Nero's website and update it.
it's possible that your drive is too new for Nero 5.5 to recognize it and you must use a newer burning program (e.g. Nero 6.6 or Nero 7, or others).

if you can run CDSpeed and InfoTool, they'll tell you the drive model and firmware version. see example below.

here's the Phillips compatibility table for Nero. try finding your drive there and see what version of Nero supports it.

Can Nero InfoTools detect your Phillis DVD drive?, if yes then uninstall the drive from "Windows Device Manager/IDE Controller" and reinstall it again if the Nero INfoTools does not detect your drive then uninstall Nero and reinstall it again see if that resolves your problem and then report back .

I started InfoTool and my drive model is Philips CDRW/DVD SCB5265 and the Firmware Version is TX07. The only version I can find on the Nero FTP site is Nero 5.5.10.56 so I installed that one instead. When I installed it then my drive is recognized in the choose recorder screen but when I try to choose it then I get the error "This version of Nero can only be used with the recorder that it was delivered with" this meaning the Image recorder but when I use Nero Express I don't have any problems anymore with chosing my drive. So I think that I can only use Nero Express for now on or the other possibility is purchasing version 6 of Nero? Also the Phillips comptability table doesn't include Phillips CDRW/DVD SCB5265 but the only ones leaning to my model I can find are CDRW/DVD CDD5211, CDRW/DVD CDD5262, CDRW/DVD CDD5263, CDRW/DVD COM6248. I you have any more tips to solve this other minor problem you're welcome but now I can burn. Thanks for all your help.

When companies were shipping Nero 5.5 with their drives, it was limited to work only with their drives. It sounds like you're using the version that came with your Lite-On CD-RW. In any case, if you want to use both, you're going to have to get a copy of Nero 6 or 7.

As usual, Ian has 'hit the nail on the head' as it were.

With Nero 5, we had a lot of restrictions for OEM drives, at the OEMs request. Then when Nero Express came out, the OEMs had begun to 'relax' these restrictions, so we allowed Nero Express to work with any model recorder, whereas Nero Burning ROM 5 still had the restriction of working only with the model recorder it was shipped with.

Of course any Nero 5 retail build would work with all model recorders. This restriction was only associated with OEM builds.

When Nero 6 was released, we removed this restriction from both Nero Express and Nero Burning ROM for OEM builds.

Craig
