I picked up that Antec power supply CompUSA had on sale. Let's see if my rebate check shows up now.

Those Norwood Micro DVD writers they have on sale are BenQ DW1640's.. at least the internals are. It's not a bad deal for $40 out the door.

I vote for the DW1655 because the DW1640 is discontinued.... but if it was still in production I'd be voting for it!

if your drive is making SMART errors, it's not a difficult thing to find out, plenty of programs will check SMART for you.

thanks.
you can also use Western Digital's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics.
http://support.wdc.com/download/
http://support.wdc.com/download/?cxml=n&pid=999&swid=3 (windows version)
works also on non-WD drives (AFAIK).

hmm...haven't used DFT in a while, should download the latest version...

I honestly haven't even looked at any tests of the new Plextor drives, I just do so little burning now that I don't think I'd get another drive until mine dies (which it hasn't)
