liteon dvdrw sohw 1633s

i have a dvdrw that only reads cd-r and games/data discs. i talked to Liteon earlier today and the guy suggested that i connect both my hard drive and dvdrw drive to the ide cable and connect it to the primary to see if it gets detected. it does. however the only way for the dvdrw to read a dvd movie or dvdrw\dvdr disc is to shut down the computer, disconnect the power, unhook the ide cable from the dvdrw driver and reconnect it and turn the computer on. it says in Administrator tools under event view that I have a controller issue. i have Nero 6 also. Im not sure what is going on here. can someone help? i've tried everything there is to try almost to my knowledge.

Maybe try another IDE cable. If that doesn't work and if it truly is a controller problem, try the drive in another computer. If you still see problems, you'll know its the drive.
