Pioneer BDR-101A Review @ ExtremeTech

Postby Ian on Fri Jun 23, 2006 8:58 am

ExtremeTech (the "extreme" version of PC Magazine) received their review unit from Pioneer last week and have already posted their test results:

As usual, there benchmarks are... lacking to say the least. I must admit that I'm surprised that they didn't give it an award. Then again, PC Magazine hasn't had their turn with the drive yet.

it does show some typical first-generation weaknesses—such as the inability to burn dual-layer BD-E media

Whar the heck is BD-E media??

Also, the conclusion doesn't even mention it can't record to CD-Rs, I'm a little surprised about that.

Just tell Ian that you will have to do the 1st FULL review on this drive, because no one has done it. I provided a link to the drive in Canada in the other thread...

That review link above was lacking detail. I'm being polite by saying it that way :D It requires the Dolphin Touch.

hrm.... BD-R and BD-RE are hard enough for newbies to remember as it is... they shouldn't go abbreviating BD-RE to BD-E

As for the Dolphin touch, it'll be a while before I do a BluRay review unfortunately. And I'm currently on review hiatus as it is.
