I find it hard to believe that he'd been disciplined 4x prior to this and still kept his job. I guess when you're the son of the commander, rules are more relaxed.

i know of a fire department in the bay area who has the same problem. not sure if anything was done, but my client works for the station and had brought it up to me

What a douche. You can't store stuff like that on a network share!!!!

As a network admin, we are always checking for improper employee files on our servers. We had one guy at work that was storing 3.5 GB worth of his ITunes downloads in his home folder on the network. Means we were backing it up every night too!! Needless to say, we put a stop to that. He broke 2 rules, storing personal data on the network, and he was also using ITunes to brwse & buy music while at work.

Though as Spaz said, if he wasn't family, he would have been fired after the first or second incident. He never should have had four chances prior to this one.
