Another writer suggestion Thread

I have the following options. Which one should I go for?

(16X DL)
Pioneer DVR 111D
Sony DWG120AB2
Lite-On DRW-6S160P-05C

(18X DL)

Sony AWG170AB2 (btw does anybody which liteon model this drive actually is?)

That's not a Lite-On. It's made by Sony NEC Optiarc.

As far as the DRW-6S160P goes.. its the OEM version of the SHW-160P6S. You're probably better off getting an actual SHW-160P6S as the firmware support is better.

Once again I have to say Pioneer DVR-111D. Excellent drive, really good firmware support, good burn speed. The only thing missing is media testing abilities (and to those who say Pioneer's CAN test media, I'm meaning in more then a purely technical sense).
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R

So is the NEC Optriac any good?

I cant go for the SHW version because these are the only options available to me, besides i am not into much firmware upgrades unless there is a big problem.

So which writer should i opt for?

NEC drives always seem to do pretty good burns for me right outa the box, but Pioneer and BenQ for me do better after a few updates, at least in Pioneers case. NEC can be stingy about updates but there is a good hacking crowd making their own firmware updates. I'd still probably do the 111 out of your choices though also.

Go for the Pioneer \:D/
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more
